Intro lessons
The best way to find out about the Alexander Technique is to try it for yourself.
Scientific research
The Alexander Technique has been shown to be effective in numerous studies.
What is the Alexander Technique?
It’s a practical skill you can learn to help with specific problems like back pain or poor posture. Often people learn the Technique just because it makes them feel good.
We all use too much effort and tension to do the simplest of things and these patterns of tension affect everything we do. The Alexander Technique makes you conscious of where you are holding on and gives you the skills to release the tension for yourself.
A different approach
Instead of directly relaxing each part of the body or using exercise to strengthen “weak” muscles, the Alexander Technique improves the coordination between your head, neck, back and limbs.
This redistributes muscle tone more evenly throughout your body, affecting postural support, breathing and movement. It makes you feel supported, light and relaxed — there’s nothing quite like it !
Core strength
This re-coordination allows core postural muscles to naturally strengthen and support you properly. Overworked and painful muscles, such as in your neck, between your shoulder blades and in your lower back are then able to ease.
Skillful teaching
An Alexander Technique teacher helps you to achieve all this through skillful guidance using their hands, combined with verbal instructions. They get you to feel more grounded, uplifted and in the moment.
Traditionally used by actors, singers, musicians and athletes to improve performance and prevent problems, the Alexander Technique is now more widely available.
